Dog Licenses On Sale Today

MIAMI VALLEY -- Dog licenses went on sale today (Dec. 1, 2014) at the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

You can still purchase them at the center, online, or at 30 other places in the country.

They cost $20 to get dogs spayed and neutered and $24 for those who haven't been altered.

The licenses help dogs get back home safely if they ever get loose or lost.

'Dogs don't have spare change in their pockets, they can't make phone calls and when we ask 'em who they belong too, often times all we hear is 'woof.'' So a dog license is proof that they are owned and loved,' said Mark Kumpf.

Officers are able to trace the licenses 24-hours a day, so a dog can be returned home without ever going to the Animal Shelter.

Dog owners can buy licenses now through Jan. 31, 2015 without penalty.

Australian Indigenous Fashion Week Being Liquidated

Australian Indigenous Fashion Week launched in April 2014 at the Sydney Town Hall. The event's organizer, All The Perks, is currently in liquidation with 400,000 Australian dollars (about $343,000) and in debt 285,000 Australian dollars (about $244,0000). WWD reported that the money is owed to unsecured creditors, according to liquidator Frank Lo Pilato.

AIFW showcased 20 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses working across fashion, accessories, textiles, furniture and crafts.

'In terms of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, the mediums have been visual - hieroglyphics and landscapes, sculptures and canvas,' Krystal Perkins, All The Perks director, told Business of Fashion back in April.

'The international community knows that aesthetic, the style of our paintings and art. What we're doing is trying to nurture the next level, which is textile design, fashion design and the manufacturing of fashion and wearable accessories.'

Chic Management represents model Samantha Harris, who acted as the face of the event, and is one of the owed creditors.

In April, Perkins told WWD that she hoped to produce a group indigenous show for the 20th anniversary edition of IMG's Mercedes Fashion Week Australia, which will run from April 12-16, 2015 at Sydney's Carriageworks.

An IMG Fashion representative recently told WWD that the company has no current plans to include any special indigenous content in 2015.

This is the second business disaster in a year for Perkins. Her old company owes creditors 495,618 Australian dollars (about $421,275), according to an investigation by the Office of the Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations. Arrulka Business Aboriginal Corporation produced the Mbantua Festival in Alice Springs in October 2013.

Leading up to the launch of AIFW, participating designers spent about a year and a half being tutored by former Sass & Bide designer Sophie Nixon as part of a program at Sydney's Whitehouse School of Design. During this program, designers worked to create the collection they showed at the event.

Transgender Model Slams Kendall Jenner For "Cheapening" Fashion Week

Who's ready for a cat fight on the catwalk?! Arisce Wanzer is the latest name to be added to the growing list of models who dislike Kendall Jenner - and she may be the reality star's biggest hater yet!

The transgender model slammed the 19-year-old in a harsh open letter - posted to The Blot - for 'cheapening' the entire fashion week experience and recruiting 'her mommy' to help get her in the door of major design houses.

Wanzer begins her note with, 'Dear Kendall, Take a moment and remove yourself from your current situation, if you can, to a life that isn't riddled with excess and only hearing the word 'yes' to your wants and requests.' Ouch.

The model goes on to explain how she moved to New York at the age of 17 to provide for her working class family, how her one-bedroom apartment currently houses six girls and how she's racking up debt with each casting and test shoot.

She recalls her excitement when she finally got the call to model for Marc Jacobs at Fashion Week, and although she was thrilled to see many of her heroes, Wanzer also noticed the 'Kardashian or something' sitting over in hair and makeup. 'Was she at the casting? What agency is she with? I didn't see her last season,' she thinks to herself.

'Does she need MORE fame? MORE money? A green card perhaps? Doesn't she get enough cash from that show that all of ignorant America glamorizes? Didn't her sister have sex with someone on camera and profit from the video sales to get their family its new line of limelight?' she adds, hinting at Kim Kardashian's infamous sex tape.

But Kendall isn't the only target of Wanzer's attack. She also bashes the very brands she hopes to model for, writing, '[I] didn't realize that these coveted spots were for sale. The cost? The soul and dignity of a fashion house.'

So how did the model end her 1,000-word diatribe? Speaking in second person, she says, 'You're on to walk in five, so you're smoking to calm your nerves. You need to ash your cigarette, and there's Kendall Jenner's drink. You already feel a bit better.' Guess those reports were true!

Holiday trees and wreaths sale will benefit Kalamazoo County police dogs

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas quickly approaching, it's time to pick out the perfect tree.

OMNI Community Credit Union in Kalamazoo will sell Christmas trees and wreaths to benefit the K9 team of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department.

Trees and wreaths will be available Saturday, Dec. 6, at the West Main Street Branch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

100 Christmas trees and 100 wreaths will be available for a donation with a suggested payment of $40 for trees and $20 for wreaths.

The event will feature a visit from Santa Claus, McGruff the Crime Dog, and the K9 team. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

Dubai to get another fashion week

A fashion body based in Singapore is planning to launch a brand new fashion week in Dubai by November next year.

Frank Cintamani, the founder of the Asian Couture Federation (ACF), has told tabloid! his fashion body is looking at organising a fashion week dedicated to couture designers.

'We've been exploring this for the last 10 months, and have been in discussion with government agencies and ministries, and are hoping to kickstart it by November of 2015,' Cintamani said. 'We will be presenting couture designers from France, Italy and from across Asia.'

To push this cause, the ACF has announced the formation of a Middle East and North Africa Couture Council (MCC), which will be responsible for recognising and supporting the best couture talents across the region.

The ACF was founded in 2010 to give designers across Asia the platform to showcase and develop their talents. It organises the FIDe Fashion Week, dedicated to haute couture, and is recognised by La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the renowned French body that governs fashion. The Dubai event will be an extension of the FIDe Fashion Week World Tour, with other city stops planned.

'Dubai presents itself as a very ideal market for haute couture designers,' said Cintamani. 'The Middle East has always been a good source for designers and Dubai seems to be the place where all these things congregate.'

Cintamani added he was not worried about existing fashion week-style events in the UAE.

'If you look at the fashion week platform, there are more than 25 fashion weeks. Fashion Forward in Dubai, for instance, is mostly a ready-to-wear platform. It has a DNA which is working well for them. Ours is entirely different. Traditionally it's only France and Italy who do [what we do].'

The ACF is federated across 10 Asian coutries with more than 16 couture designers registered. It was founded 'to promote, position and inspire the rest of the fashion industry in Asia,' said Cintamani.

'We've seen this huge exodus of designers leaving Asia. That's because we lacked the formal organisation and body to represent them. We are fragmented and it was difficult to push the Asian agenda,' he added. 'We are here to say that that no longer needs to happen. That's why we are trying to present them on an international platform.'
