A paper Olympic torch made by a six-year-old boy has just completed a 21,000-mile round-the-world journey.

Logan McKerrow decided to sell the torch for charity on eBay after he learned that London 2012 torchbearers were selling the real things.

The first buyer, in May 2012, paid £21 for the torch. It has since sold 60 times, making £34,000 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Logan, of Chard, Somerset, said: 'It's awesome. It's good that I've raised lots of money for the hearing dogs.

'I really want the Queen to have the torch now so she can keep it forever.'

So far it has been taken everywhere from St Lucia and the Scottish Highlands to Luxembourg, Jersey and Bulgaria.

His mum Kerry, 34, a shop worker, added: 'We are all just so proud of him and it has been such an incredible journey.

'We can't believe how it has captured the imagination of people. The Olympics was supposed to inspire a generation and it has certainly inspired Logan.'

Logan made the paper torch as a project in the reception year class at Avishayes Primary School in Chard, Somerset.

The first buyer , Nik Jason, 42, from Gloucester, offered to re-list the item and auction it again before donating the sale proceeds to charity.

Nik said: 'I just stumbled across it one night while looking up how much the real torches were going for.

'I thought it was lovely that such a young lad was trying to raise money for charity so I thought I'd bid on it.

'It just snowballed after that and I can't believe how it has taken off it's become a phenomenon.'

The highest sale price was £2,050 paid by the fourth buyer in the chain. Laura Maloney, 37, of Aldershot, was the 59th buyer of the torch.

She said: 'The Olympics was about inspiring a generation and he's done it himself - he's inspired lots of people and I wanted to be a part of it.'

Logan is hoping to raise £50,000 for the charity to fund the life of a guide dog from training to retirement.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has named its latest trainee dog Logan to mark the schoolboy's incredible efforts.
