The Boma Hotel in Nairobi is going to host East African Fashion Week this coming Saturday, offering fashion aficionados an insight into the latest designs for dresses and accessories.

Designers from across Eastern Africa will be showcasing their latest ideas, using local fabrics and bright African colors to bring out the location, East Africa, as an up-and-coming fashion center.

Forty percent of the gate takings will be given to a fund feeding the hungry in the Lake Turkana area which has been hit by drought and has seen the population there starve due to the lack of homegrown food.

Fashion week starts May 8 with an event at Galileo Xtreme where a 'Pre Party' will be hosted before eventually culminating in a grand night at The Boma, where an entrance of Kenya shillings 3,000 (US$34.46) will get guests admitted to a night of glitz and glamour.

East African fashion events have been escalating in numbers over the past years, a pointer towards the talent which exists now in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and the keen interest in fashion among the young and up-and-coming who make up a significant part, with growing disposable incomes, of East Africa's society.
