YNN Rochester: Fashion week raises money for homeless sheltersPlay now
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After the bills were paid and the money counted, the Center for Youth reached its fundraising goal in style.
Fashion Week 2013 was a six day event in October to raise money for the center's homeless shelters.
On Wednesday, the center celebrated reaching its goal of $150,000 after expenses.
Organizers said events like a five mile Mess-The-Dress run and a runway show are a creative necessity in tough times.
'Every government funder from the city school district to the federal government has had a cut in homeless services,' Center For Youth's Elaine Spaull said. 'And those get passed on to us. Even if they don't want to, they get passed on to us. So, we have had to find very creative ways, fun ways to make the dollars and that's what fashion week of Rochester does.'
Fashion Week 2014 will be held October 14-19.
