Pups Abby and Casper find new home in Pakenham after being rescued from ...

Abby and Casper were given a new lease of life when they were rescued from a pound in northwest Victoria by the Victorian Dog Rescue and Resource Group.

The Maltese-cross siblings were given a new home with Trevor and Amanda Ball from Pakenham, and have never been happier.

'It took them a little while to get used to things but they are fine now,' said Mr Ball.

'We're very happy with them. Abby is very affectionate, while Casper is a bit more aloof, but he's starting to come around now too.'

VicDRG is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to decrease the number of dogs killed in pounds by providing a foster care and rehoming network.

'This is the great thing about all the groups like ours working in rural areas, because when we started nine years ago there weren't any options for these dogs and cats,' said VicDRG's president Trisha Taylor.

'We're very proud that our program started all of this, because now there are 50 groups working in the country.'

Abby and Casper feature on the organisation's 2014 calendar, the sale of which is vital to their fundraising efforts.
