Queensland grazier Graeme Acton critically injured after fall from horse

Prominent Queensland grazier Graeme Acton has been critically injured in a campdrafting accident at Clarke Creek in central Queensland.

Emergency services say Mr Acton fell from his horse during the competition about 2:30pm on Friday.

He was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with head and spinal injuries.

Mr Acton's friends and family have gathered in Brisbane where he remains on life support.

Family friend Ian Lovegrove says Mr Acton is one of the 'most positive people that I've ever met in my life'.

'Graeme is one hell of a tough fellow, he's been through the mill, he's been on the land all his life,' he said.

'He's had a lot of falls and he's faced a lot of adversities ... he doesn't know the word impossible and he doesn't know the word surrender.

'I'm not in a medical profession but if anyone can make it, Graeme can make it.'

Along with his brother Evan, Mr Acton is director of the Acton Land and Cattle Company which owns approximately 3.87 million acres.

The company manages approximately 180,000 head of cattle, exporting about 30,000 to Asia and the Middle East annually.
