Get a leg up.
Fall fashions are nothing if not leggy. Whether it is artful draping that exposes well-toned thighs, well-cut trousers and skinny pants, microminis or even shorts, the season is going to be stem-friendly.

In the artful draping department, no one can compete with Prabal Gurung's presentation. Fabric was twisted and manipulated to create saronglike skirts that somehow had a tailored feel, while appearing effortless.
Alexander Wang's show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard was a utilitarian spectacle. From the giant turn table set filled with aluminum ducts to the low heeled patent boots, to the strappy bag with clip-on compartments, to the clothes, yes, the clothes. Laser-cut leathers, popcorn sweaters and the shortest skirts out there -- we liked.

On top, Gurung showed a flair for this same criss-cross manipulation on blouses and gorgeously chunky hand-knit sweaters, scarves and wraps. Suits were deconstructed and reconstructed with peek-a-boo cutouts and bits of the insides showing. His color for the season is clearly sienna, from the warm burnt hues to more sunny, almost tangerine tones.
The resulting looks seemed effortless, while energized.
Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais' fall collection explored luxe textures, volume and color.
Highlights were slouchy printed pants and swishy ankle-length palazzos, pairing opaque purple and red tights with everything, dresses in vibrant chartreuse and silk pieces bearing an amusing unicorn print inspired by the famous tapestries housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Cloisters. The ruffled collars, however, were a fun touch probably best not tried at home.

Oversized sweaters paired with minis were the order of the day at both Rebecca Taylor and Lacoste.
Taylor was in a blue mood, showing the palest cornflower hues to deep navy, and hitting all the grades of purple in between. Her skirts were short and quilted, giving them a little strength to stand up to the fluffy, furry sweaters and oversized coats and fur-trimmed moto jackets.
Looks at Lacoste were on the straight and narrow. Think skinny trousers, long coats, straight-cut knits and skirts, the shorter, the better, in monochromes burgundy and navy.
'Project Runway' darling Christian Siriano was inspired by early model Lisa Fonssagrives Penn from the late 1940s and early 1950s. This classic, ladylike collection of dresses, gowns and skinny trousers was practically a study in costume design, it was so accurate to the period. The Siriano flare came out in his choice of more modern fabrics, particularly a fantastic marble print that was rendered on silk. Herve Leger's brand of bodycon dressing is hard to improve on. However, designers Max and Lubov Azria manage to keep it fresh, and the genius is in the details. Grommets used for beading, cutouts, mixing prints to create a three-dimensional look, and playing around with types of hems keeps this iconic brand kicking with life.
