Five Spring 2015 Fashion Trends You Can Definitely Pull Off

Flares

You heard the '70s are the new '90s, right?

Yes, yes, the 1970s are rearing their head in a forceful way. Hallmarks of the decade-patchwork, colored suede, and light-wash denim-are all back in a big way, but flares are the real hero piece to go after. Skinny though the knee and kicking out to an extreme bell is how Tom Ford showed the style, which is more or less universally flattering. Try them as a jean or in suiting fabric with a matching blazer.

Fringed and Frayed

Relish in the breeze.

Fringe has attached itself to everything from daytime knits to evening looks, right in line with that '70s vibe. Giambattista Valli's fringed minidress would be the most fun to twirl around in, while Proenza Schouler's long skirt would make a terrific, swoosh-y entrance itself. Unfinished edges create a fringe of their own, seen here on skirts from Prada and Celine.

Tie Belts

Judo! Obi! Whatever you need to call it.

Possibly the easiest spring trend: find fabric, tie it around your waist. There were skinny and wide iterations of this belting style, seen on outerwear, blazers, dresses, even slung at the hips. Wait for all the ladies' mags to cheer on the 'waist-whittling power.'

Military

More than just Marc.

Feel free to trace the appropriation of military uniforms back to the '70s, too. Mr. Marc Jacobs made quite the statement with his parade of uniformed, makeup-less girls around a boarded up pink house, but the epaulets didn't stop there. Outerwear options from vests to anoraks to bombers should be in good supply come spring, while Victoria Beckham imagined a midi-length dress in the style.

Jewel Tones-For Spring!

Navy, ochre yellow, jade green: no longer exclusive of autumn.

There were a ton of jewel tones on the runway; berry hues and rich greens we're used to seeing for fall, imagined instead for warmer months. Topshop and Jil Sander broke up raspberry and red with bright white, while The Row showed mustard and maple brown alongside straw, giving the heavy colors a springtime lightness.
