It may yet be the depths of winter in Melbourne, but the fashion world is casting its gaze to seven days in spring - specifically the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Casting calls for the runway shows began in earnest on Thursday in the Wool and Wheat Room at the InterContinental Hotel, with a panel of City of Melbourne representatives, including Councillor Beverley Mortimer and MSFW producer Valentina Jovanovska, who were on the lookout for a very special look among the male and female 'talent' on display.

'Uniquely Melbourne' was the buzzword and healthy bodies were very much the rage over the stick-thin body shape all too often seen on the international runway. MSFW is sponsored by the City of Melbourne and runs from August 30 to September 7. Daily designer runways shows will be held at Melbourne Town Hall and free daily runways will be held at the MSFW Hub in City Square, including a full day dedicated to men's collections. All ready-to-wear collections featured during MSFW can be purchased from the city's retailers, a move designed to deliver a boost to the local retail economy.
