MODA to hold auditions for Spring Fashion Show host

On Feb. 17, Merchandising Opportunities and Design Association (MODA) will be holding host auditions where attendees can get the opportunity to host this spring's MODA fashion show.

MODA will present their Spring Fashion Show on April 4 and 5 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel.

'This year's show is called 'MODA Presents Allure' and its main theme is modern spring time with a vintage twist but modernizing it,' said Arianna Dykstra, President of MODA. 'It's fun and springy but still has a modern elegant feel.'

To host the fashion show, MODA will allow anyone who wants the opportunity to host to audition for one of the two roles.

'[The Host Audition] started about two years ago,' Dykstra said. 'I came up with the idea, and I kind of wanted to include everyone on campus. Instead of scouting for people, I wanted to give a general census and audition people.'

The audition will be held in three rounds, the first round will serve as a brief introduction of the contestant and they would have to read from a script provided. In the second round, the contestant is paired with another and is given a chance to improvise for a couple minutes with each other. The third and final round is a Q&A from the E-board and Production Committee.

'This will be our third semester [hosting auditions] and we are looking to grow,' Dykstra said. 'We are hoping for at least 15 contestants [to enter].'

If the contestants want to audition with someone they know, they are allowed to.

'We've had in the past partners audition together, so if they want to do it with a friend, they can audition as a pair.' Dykstra said.

With the opportunity to host a big fashion show, with an audience of about 1200 people, the hosts should know their stage presence and how to entertain the audience.

'It can be a long show, and we want the audience to be entertained,' Dykstra said.

Anybody interested in getting an opportunity to host a big fashion show are more than welcomed to try out.

'I think it's a really good opportunity, especially for Communication and Theater majors to get good exposure,' Dykstra said.

The audition will be held on Feb. 17 at 8:30 p.m. in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center. Check-in begins at 8:15 p.m.
