anniversary of her renowned wrap dress. Ms. von Furstenberg is not afraid to take risks during her NYFW shows - last fall her models donned none other than the high-tech Glass specs on the catwalk. Perhaps the forward-looking stylite will use the runway again this year as a platform for the latest in wearable tech. Will Diane von Furstenberg debut New York Fashion Week 2014 is just two days away, where the leading names in fashion showcase their latest styles. Among the bigwigs is designer luminary Diane von Furstenberg, who is celebrating the 40 Intel's wearable tech on the catwalk this year? It's possible. Here's why: th
Diane von Furstenberg Is CFDA President
Intel partnered with the CFDA, Barneys New York, and Opening Ceremony to launch wearables that impeccably fuse fashion and technology. The CFDA announced that it will work with Intel to create a community for tech developers and fashion designers to join forces in their efforts to craft wearable technology. Who better than the CFDA president herself to debut the reported Intel smart bracelet?
'CFDA's commitments are to drive innovation in the fashion industry and as we look at the power of technology and its influence on fashion, we believe technology will need to be part of the fashion industry's DNA,' said Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA. 'That's why we are excited to announce a strategic collaboration with Intel on wearable technology in which we can bring together unique strengths of the two industries - Intel, a company that delivers technological innovation across computing devices, and our designers, who design beautiful clothing and accessories that people want to wear. The two together will be a powerful combination.'
Tech Savvy Catwalk
As was mentioned above, Ms. von Furstenberg is no stranger to bringing technology onto the runway. Google Glass and co-founder Sergey Brin made a surprise appearance during her NYFW show in September. The futuristic eyewear also made a surprise entrance onstage as part of the models' get-ups. It's clear von Furstenberg has caught onto the convergence of fashion and tech, and it's unlikely she will endorse anything but Intel's wearable tech on the runway, seeing as she is directly involved in the project.
Intel's Wearable Tech Could Be That 'Something Special'
The DVF New York Fashion Week show this year is guaranteed the break the mold. In honor of the wrap dress's 40 th' anniversary, the fashion designer has decided to mix things up and relocate to Spring Studios in TriBeCa, rather than her usual Lincoln Center spot. The fashion designer told New York Times that the move was sparked by her desire ' to do something special.' Why stop at just moving locations? Perhaps Ms. von Fustenberg is planning to go wily for her anniversary, wearable tech unveilings and all. Could Intel's smart bracelet be a part of that 'something special?'
What Better Time Than NYFW 2014?
One of the biggest complaints in wearable tech right now is that the function is there, but the fashion has a long ways to go. (i.e. ' I wouldn't be caught dead with that ugly rubber thing.') While high-tech specs and industrial wrist candy may appeal the likes of a small sample of geek chic consumers, most of us want something that is more unassumingly stylish. That being said, what better time than New York Fashion Week 2014 to debut wearable tech? All of the major fashion influencers will be jam-packed into one trendy hub, waiting to see what the 'next big thing' is. If a piece of technology is going to go mainstream, it doesn't hurt to have Diane von Furstenberg's name attached to it during one of the most important weeks in fashion. The bottom line is that if Intel's wearable tech isn't making its grand entrance during NYFW 2014, when is a better time? The answer is never.
