NY Fashion Week: At Tory Burch, medieval made modern

NEW YORK -- Her parents' armor collection--yeah, that's right--is what inspired the strong fall 2014 collection Tory Burch showed Tuesday during New York Fashion Week.

The clothing was a mix of textures, including heavy knits, tapestry brocades and florals, plus bold belts and rectangular box bags with chain details.

The look: Medieval made modern.

Key pieces: Equestrian print top and short pleated skirt worn with chain belt, over-the-knee sweater tights and lace-up ghillie heels. High-waist charcoal-pleated coat dress. Foiled cable knit sweater. Knit sweater dress with chain detail. Cropped, cuffed wide-leg pants worn with jeweled wool jacket. Quilted jacquard funnel-neck top and brocade pants. Tapestry print dress. Fur muffs.

The verdict: It was refreshing to see something darker, edgier and more aggressive from the normally sunny and colorful designer.
