2 Really Pretty Chignons To Try From Spring Fashion Week

This weekend in Milan we saw a lot of great hairstyles: hippie waves, colorful turbans, cornrow braids, but there were two styles that really stood out from the rest. One was cool, one was elegant, but both of them happened to be chignons. And now before you roll your eyes and say buns are boring, I promise you these are two of the prettiest you've ever seen. I'd even suggest opening up your Pinterest page before you continue reading.

The updo at Bottega Veneta took its inspiration from ballerinas buns, but not the perfect, hairnet covered kind. Hairstylist Guido forwent hairspray for texturizing spray ( Redken Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray) to give the hair a disheveled texture, and let a few pieces of hair fall out around the face as he raked it back. And when he wrapped the ends into a soft knot, he didn't bother tucking them in. Instead, he left them peeking out, offsetting the gorgeous bejeweled combs adorning the hair, while still making the style feel incredibly luxe.

At Dolce & Gabbana, Guido channeled the Spanish inspiration of the collection with low chignons decorated with roses, carnations, gilded combs, and jeweled crowns. But remove all the flourishes and you still have a heartbreakingly beautiful hairstyle. Again, Guido prepped the hair with Redken Wind Blown, but this time he smoothed all the hair back and let the front pieces cover the tops of the ears. 'A style like this can be severe,' he explained. 'But I'm making the part with my fingers, I'm combing the hair back with my fingers, and with the ears covered it makes the whole effect much softer and more feminine.' The bun itself was also soft, with bits and pieces of hair sticking out randomly, like how you and I would do our own hair, explained Guido. Let's see if that hold's true when I give this style a try-tonight in my hotel room.
