Paris Fashion Week Morning Report

Finally, at long last, they've arrived - or have they?

Your faithful Fashion Week morning reporter has just parachuted into Paris, where I'll be taking over the duty of these daily reports from my colleague Alexandra Jacobs. She and the rest of the traveling class of editors and stylists are now working their way over from Milan.

Why? The ongoing Air France strike has created a kerfuffle for many (and an unexpected boon for Alitalia, which is still making regular passages between Milan and Paris). The good news is that Paris Fashion Week starts slowly, giving the hordes a little time to find their way here and begin the last leg of the Fashion Month marathon.

Tuesday is dominated by new arrivals and up-and-coming talents. The Italian designer Anthony Vaccarello, fresh from his first collection for Versus Versace in New York, presents his own wares at 6 p.m. Then it's on to Jacquemus, the namesake line of the young Frenchman Simon Porte Jacquemus, at 7 p.m.

New to the schedule is Anrealage, an award-winning Japanese line and a 10-year veteran of Tokyo Fashion Week that is making its Paris debut in the afternoon. (The name is an amalgam of 'An Unreal,' 'Real,' 'Age' - itself not an unapt description of fashion month.)

Capping off the evening is the New York import Hood by Air, not unknown to Paris showgoers, both from previous small installations (the last at the home of Michèle Lamy's daughter, Scarlett Rouge) and from its honorable mention for the LVMH Prize. But tonight marks its first time on the official calendar, where it will show a second part to the 'Superego' collection, first presented during New York Fashion Week. The label is promising an all-standing show with a performance by the electronic musician Fatima Al Qadiri and its longtime friend and collaborator, the DJ Venus X. My French is not perfect, but I think the best translation of that is likely to be 'a party.'
