Rachel Zoe on Spring Fashion Trends, Packing for a Trip, and Negotiating ...

If you've ever taken the elevator in the iconic Tiffany & Co. flagship on Fifth Avenue, you may have noticed that it always skips the mysterious, unlabeled fifth floor. But last night, the mystery was unveiled at the launch of Rachel Zoe's second book, Living In Style: Inspiration and Advice for Everyday Glamour. Spoiler: The floor holds an insanely posh event space complete with Tiffany blue walls, famous fashion-y people like Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Prabal Gurung air kissing one another, and proper cater waiters offering champagne and delicious passed hors d'oeuvres.

In celebration for the occasion, the Hollywood stylist/fashion designer/TV star/working mom brought her insanely chic family along as entourage. Her proud dad even adorably bombed the start of my interview with Rachel: 'I just saw your jewelry on Pamela. Unbelievable. Amazing.'

'OK, dad,' Rachel said, as she gently shoved him out of the voice recorder's range. So sweet. But we did need to get down to crucial fashion chat business before Rach was pulled back into her crowd of friends and admirers. So here we go:

GLAMOUR: Your dad is so proud of you!Rachel Zoe: I know. But only with your dad can you go, 'OK dad.' [As she makes a shoving motion.] Only your dad, your husband, your mom, and your sister can you do that to.

What spring essentials are you shopping for right now?RZ: I would say a good trench coat-a really good trench coat. Definitely a really good camel-colored, yummy bag of some sort. And I would say some an amazing caftan that I can just wear from the beach to a lunch to a dinner party.

You travel a lot and it's spring break season...RZ: I know! How about launching a book during spring break. What was I thinking?!

What strategies do you have for packing your a spring vacation weekender bag? RZ: Well it's a little different now that I have a newborn and a toddler. The packing strategy has shifted a little bit. Packing is basically: If you're going on a weekend, then just take what you're really going to wear. And how many times are you going to leave the room? If that makes any sense. Like if you're going to sleep, read, and sit by a fire-chunky knit sweaters, leggings, comfortable boots. But if you're going on like a party weekend, then bring your favorite pieces and make sure you'll wear them.

What about warm weather breaks-what are your staples?RZ: Lots of sarongs, lots of pretty sundresses, and of course a good espadrille or wedge.

And how do you negotiate packing space with your husband Rodger?RZ: Oh, I don't negotiate, I just do it. But he's kind of an over-packer, too. So he gives me a hard time about it. But at the end, I can just give it right back.

Oh, Rodge. Do you like Rachel's packing advice? And what spring essentials will you be shopping for? Photos: Getty Images
