Palazzo pants in natural tones and funky prints, long dresses and hats, peasant sleeve blouses and bubble jewelry were among the fashion trends featured at the Ladies Spring Review Fashion Show, Thursday, March 20, at the Carroll Building in Brush. With only a sprinkling of men on hand, the chatter and laughter at the festive event, along with cocktails and tasty treats, gave the evening the feel of a collective girls' night out.The show was the brain child of and hosted by downtown Brush business owners Andrea Spresser of All About U and Buffie Dechant of the Bling and Me.Dechant said lots of the women who attended the event came in groups with one daycare owner filling up her 16-passenger van with female friends and traveling to the fashion show.

Spresser and Dechant wanted the show to showcase spring fashions from their respective stores, as well as fashions, products and services of other female-owned businesses in Brush and also serve as a networking opportunity. Strong ticket sales and attendance of nearly 200 and positive, post-event buzz indicate that women in the Brush area might be interested in more fashion-oriented and female-focused events. Both Dechant and Spresser said the day after the event people were talking about how much they enjoyed the fashion show.'It went very well. We were very thankful to see so many people interested in our event and get excited about Brush,' Dechant said. Spresser added, 'It was a great women's event celebrating women in business and in Brush.'Modeling the clothes were Brush area business members and residents, as well as high school students. Some of the outfits modeled in the show were auctioned off as part of the fundraiser as well as other donated products with the proceeds going to the Save Our Sands Theatre campaign. Spresser said the figures are still being tallied, however ticket sales and the auction appear to have each raised more than $2,000.More than 30 Brush businesses supported the spring fashion show.Dechant saw a boost in business following the fashion show and said it also provided an opportunity to educate customers on the types of apparel she carries, saying one customer thought all she sold were clothes for teenagers, and another not aware that she carried plus size clothing. Bling and Me Clothing supplier has local roots. Many of the eclectic fashions carried by Dechant at the Bling and Me are from Brush area native Kathy Jolly, who has operated a clothing wholesale business, Kathy Jolly and Associates out of the Denver Merchandise Mart, for more than 30 years. The Jolly family has ranched near Woodrow for many years. Jolly, whose mother was born in Brush, still owns the ranch in Woodrow with her sister, and it currently is an active operation raising cattle and wheat.Jolly's path into the fashion industry began when she studied merchandising at the Colorado Women's College, following which she worked for Neusteters fine clothing store in downtown Denver as a buyer for a number of years before setting out on her own at the merchandise mart. Jolly said her company specializes in casual clothing, sportswear and accessories, including hats, providing retail merchandize for specialty stores over the six Rocky Mountain states. She said she finds her clothing on trips to New York City and Los Angeles.Jolly and Dechant, who opened the Bling and Me about a year ago, first connected via their shared area veterinarian Scott Robinette. Even with the explosive growth of online clothing sales, Jolly said there still is a need and place for local small town shops for customers who want personal service.'In small communities they (customers) want to see and feel what the merchandise is and they want to know the owners,' Jolly said. 'If you go into Macys, they are not going to know who you are. If you go into Buffy's store she is going to know who you are and what you like.'Jolly said Dechant tries hard to find things for her customers that they will like, saying 'she has a good eye' when it comes to fashion.
