Over 70 tons of sand where kids can create their won sand sculptures, consturct their own buildings, repair the plumbing and excavate sand with a digger. Through Sunday, March 30. New Year's Eve Celebration. New Year’s Countdown Celebration â€' Celebrate the upcoming New Year with The Children’s Museum of Cleveland. This year our celebration is open to the public. Have a great time with noisemakers & party hats and win prizes throughout our fun filled, DJ-led dance party. A provocative exhibition created by The Natural History Museum, London, that explores the wild science of seduction in the animal kingdom, featuring unusual, odd and sometimes dangerous behaviors used to attract a mate. Recommended for visitors 13 and older. Through Sunday, April 27. $5, plus museum admission. Ice Age 2013: A Winter Event of Prehistoric Proportions. Through Sunday, Jan. 5. Interactive Exhibit: 'Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl: Home Sweet Home.' Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl share important messages of conservation and safety. Explore a ranger’s station, hike on a nature trail, climb a rock wall, row a pretend boat, stage a puppet show and more in this kid-friendly, hands-on exhibit. Through Sunday, Jan. 19. Free with museum admission. New Year's at Noon. Participants can meet a variety of raptors and learn all about these fascinating birds. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. Ring in the New Year Hike. Winter Hike at the North Kingsville Sand Barrents. Take I-90 east to exit 235, go north on 193 into the town of North Kingsville. Turn right onto East Center Street, go 2.5 miles, then turn left on Poone Road. The preserve is on the left after the railroad tracks. Dress for the weather. 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.

Grounds feature barn, log cabin, heritage trail and gardens. Tours by appointment only (for 15 or more). Hours: 1-4 p.m. Wednesday and Sunday. Admission: Great Lakes Science, $12-$14; Omnimax Theater, $9-$11; Great Lakes Science and Omnimax combo, $17-$19. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). Featuring hundreds of hands-on exhibits, themed traveling exhibitions, daily demonstrations and the Omnimax Theater. The Steamship William G. Mather is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in May, September and October; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday in June, July and August; and closed November through April. Exhibit: 'Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.' Features more than 250 artifacts conserved from the ship's debris, including the bell that was rung the night of the sinking. Visuals of the ship's construction that guests can walk through include the first and third-class cabins, boiler room, captain's bridge and more. Guests will encounter historical re-enactors. Through Sunday, Jan. 5. Hours: 10:15 a.m.-6 p.m. daily (till 6:30 p.m. the first Saturday of the month and holidays). Other exhibits close at 5 p.m. Admission is $24 for adults, $22 for ages 2-12 for nonmembers; $10 for members. Includes admission to the entire science center. Tickets for 'Titanic' are timed; advance tickets may be purchased. Omnimax films: 'Titanica' and 'Flight of the Butterflies.' Check website for schedule. Event: The ninth annual New Year's Eve Eve. Celebrate New Year's Eve early. Learn to carpet skate on the indoor rink, Big Science Shows, make fake snow and enjoy a holiday Omnimax double features ('To the Artic' and 'Alaska'). The Holden Arboretum is an outdoor living museum that promotes the beauty and importance of trees and other woody plants to create sustainable and healthy communities in the Great Lakes region and beyond. Dogs at Holden: Dogs on a leash are welcome at the arboretum but not in the Myrtle S. Holden Wildflower Garden. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
