York County New Year's Eve events

York County will say so long to 2013 with a multitude of celebrations and symbolic farewell offerings including pickles, shoes, cigars and roses.


Downtown York

Ring in the New Year at Continental Square when the City of York and Sprint present New Year's Revolution 2014 starting at 6 p.m.Tuesday, Dec. 31.


Live entertainment will be provided by Nakuu, the York teen who recently won the NBA Hip Hoops music challenge in Atlanta, RPM - a musical group that describes themselves as an eclectic mix of soul, funk, hip-hop and jazz - as well as headliner R&B group Sabrina Duke Band, who will perform up until the white rose drops and immediately after. A fireworks display will cap the evening at midnight.


Local radio personality Adam McCallister will return as Master of Ceremonies for the event. There will be a special children's countdown from 6 to 8 p.m., with complimentary hats and noisemakers for kids at Central Market, 34 W. Philadelphia St., York. Bounce houses and other kid-friendly entertainment inside Central Market will also be provided.


A food drive to benefit the York County Food Bank will be held in conjunction with the festivities. Everyone who brings a non-perishable food item to a York County Sprint location through Dec. 30 will be eligible for weekly prizes, as well as a grand prize winner to be drawn on New Year's Eve in Continental Square who will receive a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Gear Watch. Other giveaways will be held throughout the evening and a photo booth for New Year's Eve revelers.


All activities are free and open to the public. Parking in the Philadelphia Street and King Street garages will also be free.


Dillsburg

Dillsburg's New Year's Eve celebration begins Tuesday, Dec, 31, with its kid-friendly Early New Year's Celebration at Community Memorial Hall, 109 S. Baltimore St., Dillsburg, starting at 4:30 p.m. Entertainment will include children's games and crafts, facepainting, hair painting and even fingernail painting at the Pickle Parlor. A full kitchen provided by Citizens Hose will feature a menu of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cheesesteaks, hot chocolate, desserts and of course- the Dillsburg Senior Center's Famous Pickle Soup.


A blood drive from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. will benefit Central PA Blood Bank. All those who attempt to donate will receive a free T-shirt.


The Early Celebration concludes at 7 p.m. with the dropping of 'Lil' Dill' and 'Auld Lang Syne.'


The evening continues with Dillsburg Kiwanis Bingo games in the hall from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Three Black-Out Games will offer prize packages valued at more than $100.


Rhythm on Main will perform at 9 p.m. until Mr. Pickle drops at midnight. Brad Milbrand, Silver Disc Productions, hosts his final Pickle Drop, with musical entertainment followed by raffle and awards announcements at 11:45 p.m., including the drawing of one winner to join the firefighters on the ladder truck to drop Mr. Pickle.


Hellam Township

First Night Hallam 2013 New Year's Eve Celebration will be held at Hellam Fire Company, 163 E. Market St., from 7 p.m. to midnight Tuesday, Dec. 31. This family-friendly event will feature a bounce house, Gateway Church drum team, musical entertainment and prize drawings, as well as outside food vendors. The evening will include a car giveaway between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. Tickets for the giveaway will be on sale in the parking lot next to the car at the Hellam Fire Hall throughout the evening. Winner must be present to claim prize. The year will end with the dropping of the shoe on Friendship Ave.


Red Lion

Red Lion kicks off its New Year's Eve Celebration from 7 p.m. to midnight Tuesday, Dec. 31, with a variety of music, entertainment, raffles and displays. Bluegrass musicians Bluestone will perform at Wells Fargo, 11 N. Main St., Red Lion, from 7:15 to 11:15 p.m. Model train displays with a historical setting will be on display at the Red Lion Model Train Station, 73 N. Main Street, Red Lion, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. and will include a raffle for four complete ready-to-run Lionel train sets at 11 p.m. Musical group The Doozees will perform upstairs at the Red Lion Community Building, 190 S. Charles St., Red Lion, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. The Kaltreider-Benfer Library, 147 S. Charles St., Red Lion, will have balloon artists and facepainting for children from 6 to 9 p.m. A fireworks display and cigar raising will end the evening at midnight.
