Spring racing fashion cracks down on baring midriffs

Australian fashion police are taking a harsh stance on exposed stomachs during this year's spring racing carnival.

Women attending the Melbourne Cup carnival this year can expect a crackdown on crop tops, with many sections of the track banning the fashion choice.

Members and guests trying to enter the Members's Grandstand, VIP Birdcage and popular carpark picnic precints will be turned away, NewsCorp reports.

Lleyton Hewitt's wife Bec copped flack when she wore a midriff-flashing number to the 2006 Melbourne Cup and the resurgence in midriff baring has forced the ban.

'The races shouldn't feel like a nightclub. There are safe ways to be on trend and that includes choosing dresses with cutouts at the back, crossover straps, lace cutouts. Basically bare flesh is an absolute no,' says Lana Wilkinson, Caulfield Cup appointed stylist.
