Chasing Life's Italia Ricci and Scott Michael Foster on Their Tearjerker ...

What did Leo's ( Scott Michael Foster) voicemail to April ( Italia Ricci) say in that huge Chasing Life midseason finale cliffhanger?!?

That's been the question haunting fans for months since April pressed play on that mysterious message after seeing Leo's parents crying in the hospital. And when tonight's Chasing Life Christmas special airs, we'll finally find out exactly what the voicemail says.

'I was dying to see how they were going to write the rest of the voicemail message!' Ricci told E! Online. 'And that was satisfying because I love when they pick up directly where they left off. It's great because the audience has been waiting four months, so finding out immediately what the rest of the voicemail says is so satisfying. We can move on and see what else happens.'

Thanks to some promotional photos ABC Family released in advance of the Christmas special, fans know that Leo is still alive...for at least one more episode.

'I can't wait for the news to get out that Leo's not dead!' Foster said with a laugh. 'But his fate is still up in the air. Obviously, Leo decides to go through with the surgery to try and live. He's taking April's advice. What happens after that, I can't really say. But at least he did make the decision, and make an effort, to go through with the surgery and try to fight for his own life! His plan before was to just die with dignity. I'm glad he had a change of heart.'

And Foster revealed that's all thanks to April.

'April brought so much into his life,' he said. 'She forced him to think more about his plan and what he was going to do. She brought out something in him that I don't even think he knew he had. The more time he spends with her, the more he realizes he cares for her and the more he realizes he should care for his own life just as much. I think he realized he wanted to do it for her as well as for himself.'

If you're reading between the lines, it's pretty obvious that Leo's decision to get surgery on his tumor will bring him closer to April, despite the fact that they called things off in the midseason finale.

'The decision that Leo made is something April wanted him to do so that makes her happy,' Foster said. 'Ultimately, it brings them closer together whether it's romantic or not. Their bond is strong. Who knows what is going to happen in the future, but the decision brought them together in a way that hadn't happened before.'

Ricci agreed, adding, 'April and Leo are going to bond in a really deep way and realize how much stronger their connection is, whether it just is as friends or supporters or more. But there is also this underlying fear for each other.'

As happy as April will be with Leo's decision, they both know that there is a very big chance he won't make it out alive...or even if he does survive the surgery, he might not be the same guy when he wakes up.

'It's scary! Anyone that has to make that decision has got to be scared,' Foster said. 'It's a really big decision to let people perform surgery on this tumor when he could wake up different, he could not wake up at all, he could be a vegetable, there are so many things that can go wrong. And those are all weighing on his mind. But the only alternative is to slowly let the tumor take over and die. I think he made the right choice but it's still scary.'

NEWS: Rejoice! Chasing Life scored a second season

But Leo's big decision isn't the only major event in the Christmas special, since the ABC Family drama is welcoming two iconic guest stars!

' Ed Asner and Marion Ross do such a wonderful job,' Foster said. 'I think the audience is really going to love what they bring to the episode. I just can't wait for everyone to see it.'

Asner and Ross play April's paternal grandparents who visit her for a faux Christmas celebration in May to cheer her up during her hospital stay.

'The show turns into almost like an old sitcom for a bit,' Ricci said. 'Her grandparents are visiting and they haven't been around her since she's been diagnosed and they try to go into super grandparent mode and she doesn't know how to handle that. It's really funny how everyone handles it in certain moments. And we had so much fun shooting it, because Ed Asner is hilarious and Marion Ross is an absolute perfect woman. Everyone's chemistry was so amazing and this episode was just the best way to end our season.'

The Chasing Life Christmas special airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on ABC Family.
