Last Call for Emerging Designer and Fashion Forward Fund Applicants for ...

Even if most of your winter wardrobe consists of stretchy yoga pants and whatever you can throw over them in order to mask the fact that you are wearing stretchy yoga pants, let's look ahead to a more fashionable future in spring 2015. Before you know it, we'll have warmer temperatures, which makes it a lot more comfortable (uh, probably not more comfortable than stretchy yoga pants, but whatever) to try all those new trends, especially the ones that will show more skin than you want to show right now. With the fifth annual Nashville Fashion Week scheduled for April 7-11, the countdown to celebrating the best of our local fashion community alongside national and international brands begins!

NFW, held in venues around the city, champions the regional design and retail community while providing the opportunity for educational panels, workshops and discussions. NFW also places promising talent alongside established brands through the Emerging Designer Spotlight. If you're a designer with a debut fall 2015 collection, you're eligible, though preference is given to artists with a tie to Middle Tennessee. There is no minimal age or experience requirement, though applicants under the age of 18 must have parent/guardian permission. Full details and application here.

I'm a big fan of the emerging designers, because getting the opportunity to view their capsule collection early on is kind of like seeing a band that is about to blow the eff up in a tiny, intimate club. Some of my favorite area designers - Black By Maria Silver, Elizabeth Suzann - showcased in NFW's Emerging Designer showcase in years past, so I'm always eager to see what's next.

NFW is also accepting applications for the Fashion Forward Fund Award. The endowed fund supports the next generation of fashion industry professionals in Middle Tennessee through the distribution of financial awards and resources via the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Unlike the Emerging Designer application, any fashion industry professional - photographer, stylist, blogger, hair/makeup artist, publicist - is eligible, but you must have a tie to middle Tennessee and, obviously, work in a fashion-related field. Past recipients include tastemaker Elise Joseph and Leona creator Lauren Leonard. Details here.

Applications for the Emerging Designer showcase and the Fashion Forward Fund are due Dec. 15, and applications will not be accepted fashionably late.
