Menswear Might Get Its Own New York Fashion Week

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is thinking about hosting a separate fashion week for American menswear designers in 2015. The New York Times reports that the CFDA gauged interest by sending out emails to men's designers this past October about whether they would prefer a New York Men's Week, which would happen sometime after the Fourth of July.

Men's collections have never been a huge focus at New York Fashion Week, partly because the timing is all off. NYFW takes place in September and February, but menswear buyers place orders in the summer, after the shows in Europe. 'One of the biggest puzzles in the industry is why we're showing menswear on the runway three months after we've bought it,' Bloomingdale's men's fashion director Kevin Harter told the New York Times.

To make New York Men's Week a reality, the CFDA needs to get enough designers involved to draw press and buyers from around the world, and they also need to secure sponsorships to offset the costs of staging the event.
