Julia Roberts Stars In Givenchy's Spring 2015 Ads

Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci handpicked Julia Roberts to star in the label's new ads.


'The mood of the show was about this very powerful woman, and Julia represents this very much,' he told WWD.


The ads will hit newsstands in time for the March issues of monthly fashion magazines.


Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who recently shot Lupita Nyong'o for LancĂ´me, photographed Roberts in black and white for the new campaign.


The photos appear very dark, Roberts is unusually straight-faced and severe. She wears minimal makeup and 'boyish' Givenchy pieces.


'I decided to make her more intellectual, more serious, more pure,' Tisci told WWD. 'It's a different, fresh, new way to see Julia - really cool and urban, I think.'


Roberts made a return to the red carpet late last year to promote 'August: Osage County' after being largely out of the spotlight for several years. She sported Givenchy Haute Couture at the Oscars and is set to appear in 'The Secret in Their Eyes' next year. The film is a drama co-starring Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor.


Tisci had nothing but praise for the American actress.


'She's incredible as a woman. I love her so much: she's funny, ironic, intelligent, cultured - everything,' he told WWD about Roberts.


'She represents the couture part. It's important to show your iconic work. I want to build what is the real classic wardrobe.'


Roberts will share the spring campaign with many younger models. Tisci's campaigns often juxtapose studio shots and outdoorsy images - similar to J.W. Anderson's spring 2015 and Miu Miu's resort 2015 campaign images.


The photographer's 'signature saturated colors match Jamie Hawkesworth shot both campaigns, which also feature side-by-side images. Miuccia Prada's collection's swirling paisley and floral prints,' according to Yahoo! News.
