47 Couture Fashion Week Gowns That Deserve To Grace The Oscars Red Carpet

Couture Fashion Week is just what we need during these dreary days of January - a little whimsy to ignite our fashion fantasies. As the catwalk action continues over in Paris, we've been treated to frothy frocks galore from the world's finest ateliers, as well as ultra-luxe headscarves, crystal-encrusted knee pads and even bridal trainers.

Although it's unlikely we'll be seeing these beauties popping up in our own wardrobes, there is one place where they would fit in perfectly: on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Yes, with the 2014 Oscars just over a month away, where better for these gowns to bag the spotlight they deserve than on the backs of Hollywood's finest? For this is the night when our favourite starlets can go all out on the fashion front and indulge their sartorial desires by parading about in the most divine of dresses.

Let's take last year's ceremony as proof. Surely it was the night of Jennifer Lawrence who wowed the crowd in a ginormous Dior Couture gown. In fact, it was so extravangant, she barely make it up the steps to collect her gong (but she did). Or how about Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille couture? And lest we forget Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain both turning to the wonders of Armani Prive in order to glisten at the most high-profile event of awards season. Elie Saab's couture offerings also went down a treat with everyone from Sandra Bullock to Alicia Vikander opting for the house's gorgeously feminine creations.

So which of this season's Couture gowns will make it onto the Oscars red rug? As Grazia's Fashion Director Susannah Frankel notes, a gown veiled in fine lace and silk tulle, much of it jewelled, hit the Armani Prive show much to the delight of many an Oscars hopeful, although something tells us they'll be leaving the sparkling headscarves at home. As for Chanel, the French fashion house boasts the largest ateliers in Paris and, over the past decade, has gathered many revered specialists in everything from embroidery to feathers into its fold so are ripe for red carpet candidates. The show, which took place at the Grand Palais on Tuesday, saw bias-cut feather light gowns and column dresses embellished with tiny jewels, opalescent sequins and pale plumes gliding down the catwalk. And over at Dior, Raf Simons presented layer upon layer of delicate flower embroideries in veils of appliqued chiffon and in intricate pleats and folds with a colour palette of white, off-white, black and ink blue. Are you watching, J-Law?

And it doesn't end there! Top-notch actresses also have right-leg-flashing Versace numbers, xx and xx to choose from. But which do couture creations do you reckon are the most Oscars-worthy? Take a look through the wonders on offer in the gallery above...
