Dsquared2 Closes Shanghai Fashion Week

Amidst legal turmoil in Shanghai, the Canadian designing duo, Dean and Dan Caten, that make up Dsquared2 were the closing show for this year's Shanghai Fashion Week. This was the duo's inaugural runway show in China.

Generally, when we see runway shows, we think of a brand that is trying to or has already made their mark. For Dsquared2, they seemed to also want to emphasize to their Chinese clients that they are the real deal, they are authenticate.

Why would this be so important to them?

Well, as WWD reported, for nearly half a decade, a company in Shanghai has been opening counterfeit stores and selling counterfeit products under the brand's name, minus the 2. In turn, Dsquared2 has been battling a lawsuit against this company.

'It is just a mess,' Dean stated on Wednesday to WWD. 'We need to let [Chinese consumers] know that we are the real McCoy, and we don't want them to feel like they are getting ripped off. We are doing everything possible to clear this up.'

In a way to assist the duo in this matter, the local government officials in Shanghai invited Dsquared2 to Shanghai Fashion Week.

'There has been a little bit of confusion,' Dan commented. 'We are here to straighten that confusion out.'

In addition to the runway show, the duo was also in the area to inaugurate their second Shanghai Dsquared2 flagship boutique where they hosted a private cocktail party in their store.

The duo posted on Dsquared2, 'We are honored to be invited to 2014 Shanghai Fashion Week and are looking forward to this Shanghai tour. Not only to officially announce the grand opening of our store in the APM mall, but also to have this fantastic opportunity to present our collections to China's fashion public and industry.'

Well, let's hope Dsquared2 gets this straightened out and educating their consumers while forging ahead with additional boutiques is one way to attain that goal. As we hear a lot about designers and brands working on their fight against counterfeit products, this battle is one we hope to see end sooner than later.
