Eco Fashion Week highlights

Making its first appearance at the Vancouver event, H & M will focus on its garment collecting action and closing the loop. Its keynote speaker Pierre Börjesson, H & M's senior sustainability specialist, will appear during four educational seminars, which also stars Vancouver's much-feted designer Jason Matlo, Value Village chief marketing officer Karin Koonings and Maureen Dickson of Slow Fashion Forward. EFW founder Myriam Laroche stresses the importance of the seminars: 'They create a platform for people to bring a different piece of education and information to the table, and open it up for discussion. We are never done being eco-friendly, it is always something that we can learn more about, and expand on all the time.'

Tickets are $15 (tickets also redeemable for one free tea at David's Tea, 164 Water St. only April 27); 12-4 p.m., Sunday April 27 at SFU Woodward's, 149 West Hastings St., Gastown

Let's see ...

From deconstructing an old garment to designing clothes out of old materials from scratch, Young Oak designer Tammy Joe will be unveiling her take on the 68lb challenge - the amount of material and textile that each North American is said to waste in a year - via a fashion show. 'It's all about encouraging people to do something with their waste,' she says. 'Something as simple as changing its neckline or hem can really update and bring life to your garment.' Other shows include the ValueVillage/Thrift Chic Challenge (those featured include local Hey Jude design duo Lauren Clark and Lyndsey Chow, stylist Jerome Insorio and Ghazal Elhaei), with hair styling and makeup from La Biosthétique.

Tickets are $55 (for the shows and access to VIP cocktails and canapés and the official EFW SIGG water bottle), from 5 p.m., Monday, April 28, Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, 900 Canada Place, Vancouver

Let's shop ...

Showcasing Holt Renfrew's H Project and Obakki's latest collections, Eco Fashion Week rounds off its event with a fashion show and charity shopping night at Holt Renfrew. Curated by Alexandra Weston, director of brand strategy for Holt Renfrew, H Project features an eclectic spread of items - either upcycled, recycled, or a boost to the local artisanal community or a charitable aspect. She will be speaking on its newest concept 'Uncrate India'; The Obakki Foundation, which provides clean water in Africa, will receive 10 per cent of the night's shopping proceeds.

Free event (although must RSVP to rsvp-hproject@ecofashion-week.com), 7-10 p.m., April 29, at Holt Renfrew, 737 Dunsmuir Str., Vancouver
