HONOLULU Fashion Week will bring together more than 30 designers plus industry experts to showcase Hawaii's unique fashion talents when it kicks off Thursday.


The first-ever event presented by HONOLULU Magazine will take place Nov. 6-9.


'Fashion has been a part of the Hawaiian culture for years. Our rich heritage has influenced not only the designers that reside in the islands but also those designs seen on international runways this past spring,' said Alyson Helwagen, HONOLULU Magazine publisher. 'We couldn't be happier to champion our influence on the industry with this event that would not be possible without our many partners and sponsors, who are helping to catapult Hawaii's own fashion industry into an international spotlight.'


HONOLULU Magazine is partnering with Japan Fashion Week Organization, Hawaii Fashion Incubator, and the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism to present the runway shows and sponsored lounges at the Hawaii Convention Center.


The weekend will kick-off with a VIP cocktail reception on Thursday, Nov. 6, including the 'Live Aloha' runway show that will feature an exclusive collaboration between renowned Hawaiian wear designer Sig Zane and New York-based Saturdays Surf NYC. Acclaimed local interior designer Kaypee Soh will debut pieces from his first-ever womenswear apparel collection. The night will also include a highly anticipated performance from acclaimed Hawaii musicians Amy Hanaialii Gilliom and Willie K.


On Friday, Nov. 7, retail sponsor Neiman Marcus will present 'The Art of Fashion: The Best of Neiman Marcus,' a runway show of the latest collections from some of the world's best designers.


On Saturday, Nov. 8, Naissance, the Japanese line by designer Takashi Kumagai and Tsu.ya, the line of activewear by Olympic gold medal figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi will debut in the 'Get Out!' runway show of active, swim and surf inspired designs. Both Kumagai and Yamaguchi will make an appearance during the event.


Additional exclusively designed items for the 'Live Aloha' and 'Get Out!' shows will be presented by Allison Izu, Ari South, Cameron Hawaii, Florencia Arias, Tiare Hawaii, Reyn Spooner, Salvage Public, Amos Kotomori, In4mation, Iolani Sportswear, Jams World, Manuhealiʻi, Roberta Oaks, Issa de'Mar, Posh Pua, Tiffany Chou, A. Wattz Designz, Bliss Lau, Kai Ea, LK Atelier, Salty Girl Jewelry, Ecolicious, Jana Lam, Meleana, Ink&Tailor, Matt Breuning, Malia Jones, M.Nii, Aloha Sunday and Quality Peoples. W Salon and Sephora will collaborate to create the beauty looks for each show.


Hawaiian Airlines will serve as the event's official airline sponsor with hotel accommodations provided by The Royal Hawaiian. Bank of Hawaii will present the onsite pop-up boutique designed by local Hawaii artists John Koga and Lawrence Seward, which will allow visitors to shop between the runway shows. Additional sponsors include INspiration Interiors, Mercedes-Benz of Honolulu, Obun Hawaii Printing, H.I.S. Travel Agency, and Securitas.
