VPD police dog calendar goes on sale

VANCOUVER - The 2015 Vancouver Police Department Police Dog Calendar goes on sale today, with proceeds benefiting the the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Children's Foundation.


Sales from the calendar last year totaled $21,000.


The calendar features photographs of VPD police dogs with well-known professional athletes and was funded and produced by the Candy Anfield Memorial Foundation. The foundation was created by retired VPD Sergeant Mike Anfield in honour of his wife Candy, a VPD officer who lost her struggle with breast cancer in 2004.


Twenty five of the calendars sold on Monday will contain a pair of Vancouver Giants game tickets and three calendars will contain a voucher for a signed and framed picture of either the BC Lions, Vancouver Whitecaps or the Vancouver Canucks Sedin twin's calendar shot.


Anyone can buy a calendar until 12 p.m. today at the north/west corner of West Georgia and Burrard Street. They can also be purchased anytime at 3585 Graveley Street and 2120 Cambie Street.


The Vancouver Police Canine Unit has 18 handler / dog teams, with 16 constables and two sergeants, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The teams are trained in criminal apprehension, as well as narcotics, firearms and explosives detection.
