Spring fashion trends

New York Fashion Week has left designers and fashion lovers alike with new-found inspiration for spring 2014. With Marylanders fiending for warmer weather amidst inches of snow, students should start making room in their wardrobes for these must-have trends. While there is always a trend that may seem off, NYFW proved successful and provided fashion-fans with more than enough new outfit ideas.

Patterns/Prints

For all those who love the Aztec prints and geometric shapes, fear not! This trend isn't going anywhere and will be back this spring more action packed than ever before. Beware though, some prints are too bold and will not flatter even the tiniest of freshmen.

White on White

Many are scared to try this, but with the right pieces thrown together it is a smashing hit. White jeans, wedges and a sheer white top accessorized with a bulky statement necklace will be the outfit for the spring. Just be careful not to spill and have your drycleaner on speed dial!

Pastels

This is always a welcome transition from winter into spring. Forget the hard jewel tones and opt for pastel pieces. Without the edge of popping, bold colors, pastels add a soft touch to any spring wardrobe. Added bonus: pastels accessorize best with a tan!

Collars and Contrast Collars

If you weren't a fan in the fall, you better hop on now. Prepare yourself for more collar-themed trends. Brighter and bolder than ever, this trend isn't leaving stores anytime soon. Play with popping a colorful collar out of a white crop top or vice-versa with a white collar and bold prints. A layered collar adds instant class to an outfit while keeping a smidge of 'edge.'

High Waists and Wide Legs

Some thought that the high waist cut was on its way out but the wide-legs trend will cement it in place for spring and summer 2014. One major aspect of this trend will be the patterned wide leg pants. These are a personal favorite but be sure to use caution! Many patterns are great to look at on the hanger but won't look the same on yourself - try on a few and figure out which patterns are best for you.

Harem Pants: OUT

These should have never left the 80s or MC Hammer's closet. Thank the fashion gods these will be out of stores and soon impossible to find, as they should stay. If you were a fan and had a strange attachment to this trend, better hurry because you really won't be able to touch this look for much longer.
