The University of South Carolina's Fashion Week began Monday with some models who had trouble holding still for photographers and more than one wardrobe malfunction, but such things are expected when the models are dogs.

The third annual Doggie Fashion Show featured 16 canines walking a grassy runway in a variety of fashions. The dogs were all adoptable and brought to the show by the Humane Society. The event is designed to provide a fun start to Fashion Week, but as USC student and Fashion Board member Stephanie Gielarowski, it's about a bigger cause.

'The whole idea is to get dogs adopted. We bring them out and let them strut their stuff and hopefully their future best friends are here,' she said.

The Fashion Board, a 200-student member organization of the USC College of the Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, organized the Doggie Fashion Show and also will host Fashion Week events Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All are open to the public.

A Fashion Board member created flower necklaces for the dogs less inclined to more formal wear Monday. Local band 76 & Sunny performed, and dozens came out to watch the show. All were invited to bring and dress their own dogs, and Millie, who was dressed as a sailor, won the best dressed prize among the audience and took home a gift basket provided by the Humane Society.
