Organizers of Nashville Fashion Week are betting that the skies will be clear Friday night. That's when they plan to show the work of five designers in the middle of Fifth Avenue, downtown.
Nashville's annual slate of fashion shows has erected catwalks in a church, an old trolley barn, and high within a downtown skyscraper, but this is the first time it's shut down a city block.
Kristin Milener says Fifth Avenue of the Arts made sense-this year's events are themed around the idea that fashion itself is art, and the three galleries on that block agreed to open their doors for the first part of the evening.
People will literally just come out of the galleries from cocktail hour and out on to the street and that's where the runway will be.
The event takes advantage of the facelift that block was given last year, complete with strings of lights that crisscross above the traffic-or, in this case, above the models.
To accommodate the show, Fifth Avenue will be closed to traffic between Church and Union Streets starting as early as noon.
