Spring is in the air and there are quite a few really fun Chicago pet events to do with your pet this week. If you'd like a personalized piece of art featuring your pet...this is the week to hit one of several events at Bottle and Bottega to Paint Your Pet. There's a wine and cheese tasting, a couple of spa events, Hop Around the Shops, Trivia, Bowling and so much more.
Monday, April 7
Get your week started off in a celebratory mode with Pints for Pets at Jerry's Sandwiches at 5429 North Clark in Chicago to support Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance. The event is from 5 to 10 pm with a percentage of food and beverage sales going to support the groups animal rescue efforts and the medical funds for the pets they have taken in.
Thursday, April 10
Chicago - Are you ready to put your artistic flair to work for to support homeless cats? What? You stink at stick figures...don't let that stop you from grabbing a brush and letting loose for Paint-A-Kitteh for Tree House Humane Society at the Bottle and Bottega at 2900 North Lincoln Avenue. Bring a photo of your favorite kitty or whatever you'd like to paint and the paints, smocks and canvasses (and art teacher) are provided. Best part - you get to keep your creation. Bring your own bottle to inspire your work. Tickets online for $45.
Friday, April 11
Palatine - Unwind from a long week and support the animals at Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus (IDR+) at a wine and cheese tasting at d'Vine Wine and Gifts at 742 Dundee Road from 6 to 8. Tickets are $25 and cover two hours of tasting some great wines. Then shop for IDR+ with 10 percent of sales going to rescue. Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday online.
Saturday, April 12
Waukegan - Pamper yourself and support the four-legged friends in need at the Second Annual Spa Day for Waugegan Animals Getting Saved (WAGS) from 8 am until 6 pm at First Baptist Church at 401 N Genesee. Take your pick from massages, manicures, facials, make up and hair appointments. Call Anna at 847-902-0359 to boo an appointment (hurry, they're booking up fast).
Chicago - It must be spring because it's time for the Annual Hop Around The Shops on Southport (between Roscoe and Bryan) from 11 am until 2 p.m. Hit the shops with or without your pooch in tow and meet the great adoptable pets from Chicago Canine Rescue, Project Rescue Chicago, and Don't Bully My Breed.
Bourbonnais - Join It's A Pittie Rescue as they host an adoption and meet and greet event at the Bradley Petsmart at 1115 North State Road 50 from 11 to 3 pm.
Rockford - Help Angels 4 Animals get out the word about the connection between puppy mills and pet stores during a protest at Cherry Vale Mall in Rockford. The protest will be from 1 to 3 across the street from Menards on Perryville.
Chicago - Are you the fountain of knowledge for all things trivial? Put that information to use and help out the animals at One Tail at a Time at the Fifth Annual Team Trivia at Kincades at 950 West Armitage from 2 to 5 pm. Sign up now because there is only room for 20 teams and this event always sells out. Get your tickets here.
Chicago - This is actually one of my favorite city event weekends because you can Hop 'til you drop...win at trivia and then bowl all in the same day. Yes, it's time for Alive Rescues 6th Annual Pet Bowl at Lincoln Square Lanes at 4874 North Lincoln Avenue from 6 to 10. Advance tickets are $35 and they are $45 the day of - you may bowl from 6 to 7:30 or 8 to 9:30.
Sunday, April 13
Evanston - Time to Paint Your Pooch with Secondhand Snoots Rescue at the Bottle and Bottega at 1016 Davis from 11 to 1 p.m. Bring a photo of your pet and the paints, canvas and instruction will be provided to help you paint your own masterpiece. Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance. Bring your own bottle to inspire your work.
LaGrange - Join St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines and the Greater Chicago Ferret Association for Painting Fur Paws at the Bottle and Bottego at 1 West Harris Avenue. There are two different sessions - a session with an hour of instruction from 11 am until 1 pm for $40 ( register) or a session with two hours of instruction from 2 to 5 pm for $55 ( register).
Tinley Park - Time to get that new spring 'do at the Cut-A-Thon for It's a Pittie Rescue at Vagabonds Salon at 16337 Oak Park Avenue from 11 to 2 pm. Hair cuts are just $15 - blow dry not included - and all proceeds benefit the rescue.
Chicago Heights - Swing by South Suburban Humane Society at 1103 West Endfor their Easter Open House and bake sale from noon until 4 pm. Check out the animals looking for homes and help support the work being done by the organization.
Plainfield - Shop and help the animals rescue by Players for Pits at Baubles and Bubbles for Bullies at Le Casa De Traina at 24656 Jolee Court from noon until 4 pm. Enjoy Champagne, punch and snacks as you shop some cool stuff to support the animals.
