Fashion Week, runway shows fill up September

September is looking to be a haute month. MNfashion organizers have Sept. 12-19 on the calendar for Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week, with several runway shows taking place before and after. Fashionistas should get plenty of inspiration from local designers featuring their latest collections and area boutiques showing what's in store for fall and winter. Fashion show highlights include:


SEPT. 11


Fashionopolis: Mpls/St.Paul Magazine's Fashionopolis is back for a second year. The runway show and dress-to-impress event will showcase fall fashion trends from Twin Cities metro boutiques.

SEPT. 12


Envision Fall 2014: The latest fall looks from almost two dozen local designers and area boutiques -- plus hair and make-up trends -- are highlighted in this annual action-packed runway show in the newly renovated Orchestra Hall. Presented by Ignite Models, V2 and Public Functionary, live music and a silent auction featuring local art will also be part of the event.

SEPT. 13


Avant Garden: Express your fashion sense while enjoying the outdoors at this fancy garden party. Walker Art Center's annual Avant Garden fundraiser includes gourmet fare, cocktails and a silent art auction.

SEPT. 18


Angels & Divas: Cancer survivors are the models in this fashion show benefiting Twin Cities Angel Foundation, the nonprofit providing support to adults with cancer and their families. In addition to the runway show, there will be cocktails, appetizers and shopping.

SEPT. 19-21


MN4MN: This inaugural event aims to bring a little bit of New York fashion week style to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Tents will feature stores at The Shops at West End, and additional local retailers will be on hand throughout the weekend. Look for trunk shows and two runway shows Friday and Saturday evenings highlighting the latest looks from local designers and area shops.

SEPT. 25


Mercedes-Benz & Fashion: A Perfect Combination: Fashion Group International hosts this runway show highlighting men's and women's fall collections, from Wisconsin-based men's apparel and shoe brand Allen Edmonds to local women's designer Kokoon. The event uses luxury Mercedes-Benz vehicles as a backdrop.

11th annual Full Fashion Panic: An ode to Japanese street fashion and other looks will be in full swing at this runway show that knows how to keep it fun while exploring anime, manga, pop culture and fashion.

Rumble on the Runway and Minnesota Fashion Awards: This first-time Twin Cities event will have design teams competing as they produce short runway segments. The event also will highlight work from local designers and recognize achievements, from best hair stylist to top shops, in the local industry. Dress to impress -- there will be a red carpet and afterparty, as well.
