Milan Fashion Week has been struggling the past few seasons and has taken a backseat to other fashion capitals. (Earlier this year, the Global Language Monitor ranked Milan 12th on its list of top global fashion capitals, putting it far behind New York City, London and Paris).
But not everyone has given up on the city and its fashion week. Last year, the Camera Nazionale Della Moda launched an initiative to reinvigorate Milan Fashion Week, and it looks like there are some major changes in store for the spring 2015 shows.
According to WWD, an early draft of the Milan Fashion Week schedule reveals some significant changes in many designers' show dates. A number of top designers will now host their shows within the first five days of Milan Fashion Week alongside some of the city's emerging talents.
For example, up-and-comers Stella Jean and Andrea Incontri will show on the first day of Milan Fashion Week (Sept. 17) before Gucci, and Au Jour le Jour and MSGM will show on the same day as Marni, Salvatore Ferragamo and Trussardi (Sept. 21).
The most notable change is that the last day of Milan Fashion Week, which is typically when Giorgio Armani and Dsquared2 hold their shows, is fairly devoid of any big-name shows. This actually makes sense considering how many big editors skip the last day of Milan Fashion Week in order to get to Paris earlier, likeAnna Wintour, who skipped out on Armani's fall 2014 show to the displeasure of the designer.
'There are some who prefer to snub the Giorgio Armani show and go to Paris. She took an airplane, dumped Mr. Armani and went to Paris,' Armani said at a press conference following his show, according to the Telegraph.
