Animal Services slashes adoption fees for cats, dogs to eliminate shelter crowding

Lake County Animal Services is offering a 'Cat and Dog Days of Summer' sale to help eliminate shelter crowding and avoid euthanasia of adoptable animals.

Adoption fees have been slashed to $10 from the usual $50 for dogs and $40 for cats. Cats also are BOGO - buy one, get one free. Dogs labeled 'Gold Ribbon Dogs' will be given away for free.

The first day of the promotion Saturday resulted in the adoptions of 19 cats and 17 dogs, county spokeswoman Elisha Pappacoda said. The discount continues through July 26.

Also, shelter dogs will be up for adoption at a Community Carnival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at pet-friendly Hurricane Dockside Grill, 3351 W. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares.

The event will feature carnival games and a 4-on-4 volleyball tournament, which has a $10 entry fee. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and the Golden Triangle YMCA.
