Fashion week coming to Jacksonville

Paris, Milan, New York and - Jacksonville, North Carolina? Though they may not have much in common, they will all be home to their own fashion week this autumn.

Jacksonville Fashion Week co-creators are LaToya Scott and Mike Claiborne, Philadelphia natives with a passion for fashion.

Scott, a Jacksonville resident and Marine spouse who owns Final Touch Models of Philadelphia, said she's worked with several other fashion weeks during her years in the industry.

'I've helped with tons of fashion weeks and I said, 'Why not? Why can't Jacksonville have its own fashion week?',' Scott said.

Fashion week kicks off on Sept. 22 with a Trunk Show featuring local beauty shops and boutiques. Trunk shows show off the products and services provided by the stores, but instead of setting up kiosks and booths, the show will take place throughout the city. Claiborne said maps with the location of participating boutiques will be made available for those purchasing tickets - which range from $15 for individual events up to $150 for a weekend 'VIP' package.

Claiborne, owner of Phase Two Beauty Salon and minister at New River Ministries on Marine Boulevard in Jacksonville, said the trunk show will be on the road to help patrons remember where they shopped during fashion week.

'Bringing them all in one location would be easier,' Claiborne said. 'But, you wouldn't know how to get back to that store. They can't bring their whole store to you. Our Trunk Show should be where they come to your store and they have something that says 'I'm part of Fashion Week.''
