Library to Host 'Dog' Author, Summer Bag Sale

The 'Paws to Read' Summer Reading Program continues this month and the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library is offering a special lineup of events for literacy enthusiasts.

Beginning Monday, July 14 and continuing through Friday, July 18, community members can stop by the Valencia, Old Town Newhall and Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy branches during business hours to browse a fantastic selection of books at the Santa Clarita Public Library Bag Sale. Participants can search for their favorite titles, fill a Friends of the Library book bag with their finds, and take home the books and bag for just $7. Additionally, each of the libraries will also accept donations of previously-owned books. All proceeds from the Bag Sale will benefit the Santa Clarita Public Library.

In addition to the Bag Sale, dog lovers of all ages are invited to a FREE special author event with New York Times best-selling author W. Bruce Cameron at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Valencia Library. Cameron will discuss his widely popular novels, A Dog's Purpose, A Dog's Journey and his most recent page-turner, The Dogs of Christmas. The first two books are written from a dog's perspective about life, love and an everlasting relationship with humans. Light refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase and signings.

The Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library is an active group of Santa Clarita residents who volunteer, advocate and fundraise to meet the needs of the Santa Clarita Public Library. All of the proceeds from the events, fundraising efforts and programs sponsored by the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library go towards providing new materials and programming.
