More than 200 cats and dogs found new homes Saturday as a result of the Nebraska Humane Society's Adopt-a-Palooza.
'People were lined up before 9 a.m., and we had all hands on deck to help them find pets,' said Pam Wiese, spokeswoman for the Humane Society. 'We found great homes for 226 animals, and we couldn't be happier about it.'
Residents from throughout the Omaha area and Lincoln adopted 147 cats and 79 dogs, Wiese said, breaking the previous adoption record of approximately 100.
Adult cats were free and dogs were half-price at the one-day sale, which ran in conjunction with a national adoption weekend sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
'I just think the community is wonderful because they really responded,' Wiese said.
