Omaha Fashion Week gets new location, announces 15 designers

Fifteen designers will show collections during the spring Omaha Fashion Week shows, to be held, March 4-9 in the Omar Bakery Building, 4383 Nicholas St. This will be the first time the spring shows have been held in the new space, which will open for events in December. The most-recent spring shows were held at Kaneko, 1111 Jones St., and before that at the now-defunct Nomad Lounge. The new venue is larger, which will allow the a bit more elbow room for those who attend the growing event, which is going into its seventh year. The fall shows, held in August, were held in a tent on Capitol Avenue between 10th and 11th streets. Thirty designers applied for spots in the spring shows. The designers selected to show during the spring shows are: High school students Elda Doamekpo and Kate Walz; OFW veterans Angela Balderston, Terri Buckner, Hollie Hanash, Hannah Olson, Buf Reynolds, Stacey Sipp, Aubrey Sookram and Fella Vaughn; and OFW newcomers Jessica Collins, Crystal Hobson, Katie Thomspon, Margie Trembley and team Bryan Frost and Erica Cardenas. Frost and Cardenas are planning to open a brick-and-mortar store at 1402 South 13th St. next month. 'This was a very entrepreneurial group of applicants. Several are looking at manufacturing and one has a storefront,' OFW Producer Brook Hudson said in a press release. 'It's so exciting to see how far we've come as a fashion community in the seven years since OFW began.' In addition, OFW veteran Hollie Hanash, who generally designs children's clothing, will show a collection of avant-garde pieces for adults. Aubrey Sookram, another children's wear designer, will soon begin selling a 500-piece collection on Zulily.com.
