Philippines Fashion Week shows S/S 2014 designs

Once again, new and experienced Filipino designs' talents showcased their latest Spring/Summer 2014 collections at the just held edition of the Philippines Fashion Week (PhFW).

SM Men's Fashion label featured two collections-Holiday 2013 and Spring/Summer 2014-in its catwalk show, which saw the likes of British supermodel David Gandy on the ramp. Staged on the opening day, the menswear pieces were inspired from signature preppy and Etonian looks of the US and the UK. Based in vivid tones of green, red, blue and white, the ensembles included checkered polo T-shirts, denims, hoodies, track pants, varsity jackets, cut ankle-length pants and crisp dress shirts.

Filipino apparel brand Petit Monde took inspiration from Oriental design sensibilities for its latest heavy on Japanese aesthetics catwalk collection which was divided into four lines-Mori, Saku, Urahara and Sekai. Adorned with leaf and other nature-inspired prints, the lightweight fabric made Mori, which means rainforest, line featured wrap dresses and billowy skirts in rich dark hues.

The Saku, meaning bloom in English, collection was inspired from Japanese spring season's icon cherry blossoms. Based on a palette of light pink and blue, the ensembles included cropped kimonos in soft and airy materials. The Urahara range, which included bold tribal and geometric print casualwear pieces, was influenced from the street fashions of Harajuku. The final collection Sekai (world) displayed unique fashion forward pieces with modern contemporary vibes.

Other than style studded runway shows, the five-day-long Filipino event also saw a pop-up installation from the Giordano brand. Replete with around 85 looks, the label presented apparels apt for a laidback holiday cruise. The line included nautical-inspired pieces, chambrays, summery linens and crisp oxford shirts in pastel shades.
