Plus Size Fashion News: Pulp Fashion Week in Paris Celebrates Models And ...

When it comes to the fashion industry, the debate of what a plus size model is has always been a heated topic.

The industry standard is that a plus size model starts at a size 12. Despite that, there have been models that have burst onto the scene that don't fit the standard. This has opened the doors for models of different sizes and body shapes to enter the industry.

From Velvet D'Amour walking the runway for designer Jean Paul Gaultier at a size 26 to the recent Kurvenrausch Plus Size Fashion Show in Germany (you can find that article here), it is evident that these models are here to stay.

The latest country to embrace curves in fashion is France with their first-ever plus size fashion week taking place in Paris on October 27, 2013. The event, called Pulp Fashion Week, was organized by Histoire de Courbes, a Paris-based fashion group that celebrates larger women. The best part? A variety of different sized models, some larger than the industry standard, were used to walk the runway in couture clothing and lingerie from various French plus size designers.

Why the word 'pulp' in the name of such a groundbreaking fashion event? The word 'pulp' in French represents luscious fruit. Some of the French plus size fashion brands that showed at Pulp Fashion Week were Curvy Kate, Tamboo Bamboo, Maryse Richardson, La Belle Affranchie and Femme Fabuleuses.
